Marie-

This scented French garden heirloom, also known as annual carnation, showcases vintage carnations that emit a sweet and spicy fragrance of clove. The frilly, pale lemon yellow blooms measure 1 1/2-2" in size and consist mostly of double flowers with a small percentage of singles. The foliage resembles grass and varies in color from gray to blue-green. In our trials, this variety typically blooms from late July through August. It is best grown as an annual for cut-flower production. Pronounced "shab-o" with a long "o," it is considered a tender perennial in Zones 6-8.

These edible flowers can be used to enhance the presentation of salads, desserts, soups, icing, and cold drinks. They add a mild clove flavor to your dishes.
